On the Bab, Covent Garden, London

April 11, 2017

At my previous job, On the Bab was my “treat myself” lunch place but since I changed job last year I couldn’t go back there for lunch. I decided to head there for dinner with a friend after work. They changed the menu slightly but nevertheless, it was still delicious. Unfortunately, my friend didn’t enjoy it as much as I did as everything had chilli mayo which he isn’t too crazy about.

We got there as early as possible to grab a table as the place is small, and will fill up very quickly during peak times. The service is relatively quickly, so we were pretty much done within 1hr 30mins.

Chicken dumplings £3.60

Toppoki – £5.20

Bulgogi beef on rice – £8.50

Fried chicken on a roll – £8.90

On the Bab is a place for a quick meal with a small group of friends, therefore I won’t recommend going there with a large group (4+ people). If you do go then be sure to get there early before the place starts to fill up.

The portions for their main courses are very generously, however the sides are a little disappointing. They are very expensive for the amount that you get. I won’t recommend the sides, and the mains are definitely the dishes you should go to On the Bab for.

  • The food you ordered looked delicious! Even though you don’t work near the restaurant anymore, glad you had the opportunity to visit again. There are times when I see side orders costing almost as much as the main dish. At that point, might as well pay a dollar or two more and get twice the portion XD.

  • I like starters/sides and I do tend to always order some, but sometimes it’s just a bit too expensive for the amount that you get.
